This year, I set myself a quiet challenge: return to the country of my grandfather. To make it simple — and meaningful — I decided to travel there by motorcycle. Nearly 2,500 km across Bavaria, the Tyrol, the Dolomites and Friuli on my Triumph Bonneville, retracing my childhood memories and reaching the house where my grandfather was born.
An Initiatory Journey with a Taste of Prosciutto
My destination is San Daniele del Friuli — a small town next to the village where my grandfather was born. I’ll take the opportunity to explore the region and revisit the places still etched in my memory.
At each stage of the trip, I’ll share my favourite moments, some photos, and a bit of context.
I hope to turn it into a story you’ll enjoy following, day by day.
This journey is also an experience — a moment to pause. I’m riding alone, with limited luggage and an open mind. Robert Louis Stevenson, and my friend Christophe, once said: It’s not the destination that matters, but the journey.
That’s what I’m after. Time to be with myself, to reflect on the past — and maybe think more clearly about what comes next.
A Triumph Made for the Road
My Triumph Bonneville — Bonnie, as I call her — is ready for the road. Just 2,000 km on the clock, freshly serviced and waiting to carry me through nine days of riding.
Departure: 22 August. First stop: Ulm, Germany — 600 km to break the rhythm of daily life.
Follow the ride. I’ll be sharing thoughts and updates here on the blog, and across social media — as I go.
